Week 5
The Wise And The Foolish Virgins
Opening Prayer (5 mins)
As you reflect on the Word, pray for a revelation of what it means to truly be ready for the Lord. Pray for distraction, spiritual complacency and superficial living to be removed, and a deep, enduring devotion that carries oil in the secret place to be formed.
Opening Questions (10mins)
What does the word “readiness” mean to you in everyday life? (e.g. exams, travel, emergencies)
Have you ever been unprepared for something important? What did that experience teach you?
Discussion Questions (30mins)
What stands out to you about the difference between the wise and foolish virgins?
Why do you think Jesus focuses on readiness rather than just participation in the wedding?
What is significant about the fact that all ten virgins were waiting, and all of them fell asleep?
Jesus highlights a delay in the bridegroom’s arrival. What does this teach us about waiting seasons in the Christian life?
What challenges do people often face in long waiting seasons?
Why is the closing of the door such a strong image? What warning do you think Jesus is giving without causing fear-based thinking?
Personal Reflection (10 minutes)
Am I living from a consistent intimate walk with the Lord, or only from moments of spiritual high?
Where is God inviting me into deeper consistency in my private life with Him?
If my spiritual life were tested over time, what would sustain me?
Practical Applications

Sunday services
emotional moments
crisis prayers
past experiences
Ask God to help you develop a steady rhythm of intimacy.
3. Strengthen Spiritual Alertness
Practice being attentive to God throughout the day:
short prayers
awareness of His presence
immediate obedience to conviction
Ask God to form your own depth in Him.
Closing Prayer Focus (10 minutes)
Pray together:
Ask God to form deep, personal intimacy with Him in each life.
Pray for the grace to move from external participation to internal devotion.
Ask for a renewed hunger for prayer, Scripture, and the Holy Spirit.
Pray against spiritual complacency, delay, and distraction.
Ask God to make the church a people who are ready, watchful, and rooted in Him.
Pray that every believer would carry their own oil, authentic, personal, and sustained relationship with God.
