Week 4
The Wise And The Foolish Builders
Opening Prayer (5 mins)
Ask the Lord for revelation on areas of your lives that have been built on faulty foundations. Pray for grace to surrender these areas to the Lord.
Opening Questions (10mins)
When you think about the word “foundation,” what comes to mind in real life?
Can you remember a time when pressure or difficulty revealed something about your life or character you didn’t expect?
Discussion Questions (30mins)
Why is it easier to hear truth than to live it out consistently?
Jesus says both houses experienced rain, floods, and wind. What does this tell us about life in general?
What are some “sand-like” foundations people may unintentionally build their lives on today?
What does it practically mean to build your life on Jesus’ words?
Personal Reflection (10 minutes)
Where in my life have I been hearing truth but not actually building on it?
What tends to become my “default foundation” when pressure comes?
Is there an area where God is inviting me into deeper obedience, not just awareness?
Practical Applications
Choose one or two practical ways to respond this week:
1. Move from Hearing to Doing
Identify one specific teaching of Jesus you’ve recently heard
Ask: What would obedience look like in this area this week?
2. Identify “Sand” Areas
What currently carries too much weight in your life?
approval of others
success
money
emotions
control
Bring that area honestly before God.
3. Practice Immediate Obedience
Instead of delaying response, practice acting quickly on conviction.
Ask God for grace to obey promptly, not eventually.
Closing Prayer Focus (10 minutes)
Pray together:
Pray for strength to stand firm in seasons of pressure, testing, and uncertainty, with Christ as our foundation.
Ask for a deeper work of the Spirit to form true discipleship, not just spiritual awareness or inspiration.
Pray that the church would be rooted, grounded, and mature in obedience, not easily shaken by circumstances.
Ask God to cultivate a lifestyle of immediate and consistent obedience rather than delayed response to conviction.
Pray that the group and the wider church would become a people who not only receive truth, but are built upon it over time.
