Week Two
Intergenerational Relationships
Main Idea —
Faithfulness to Christ should result in self-controlled, holy living in all seasons and relationships. Paul emphasizes teaching that shapes every generation to live with dignity and purpose.
The church is called to be a spiritual family — fathers, mothers, sons, and daughters walking together. God's design is not for generations to be divided or isolated, but to be interwoven and interdependent, building His house together and reaching the world as one.
Key Themes —
Godly manhood and womanhood
Integrity in teaching and behaviour
Witnessing with our lives
Intergeneration discipleship
Opening Questions —
Share about a spiritual father/mother or mentor who impacted your life.
What is something valuable you have learned from someone in a different generation?
Read Together —
Titus 2:1-8
Reflection & Discussion —
1. The shaping of all generations through sound teaching:
Why does Paul instruct Titus to “teach what accords with sound doctrine”?
What does this tell us about the importance of truth across all generations?
How does sound doctrine protect and unify different generations?
2. The role of older generations:
What qualities does Paul expect from older men and women?
Why do you think Paul calls them to be dignified, self-controlled and role models?
What does it mean to be a spiritual father or mother?
3. The role of younger generations:
How are younger men and women instructed to live?
How does the behaviour of younger believers reflect the gospel?
In what ways can the younger generations honor and learn from the older ones?
4. God’s design: interdependence, not independence:
What happens when generations stay isolated from one another in the church?
What might it look like for the church to “build the house of God together” – fathers, mothers, sons and daughters?
How could your life group strengthen intergenerational relationships and become more spiritually nurturing?
Prayer & Ministry —
Invite older and younger members to pray blessings over one another.
Ask the Lord to heal any intergenerational wounds or misunderstandings.
Pray for a spiritual family revival in our church — honour, discipleship and unity across all ages.
Application / Takeaway —
Reflect: Am I mentoring or being mentored?
Consider reaching out this week to someone from another generation to encourage, learn from or walk alongside.
As a group, consider pairing up across generations for mutual encouragement over the next month.
