The Life Of A Disciple

Living Out The Beatitudes

Blessed Are The Peacemakers

For LifeGroup Discussion

Main Theme:
God’s Kingdom people are not just peace-lovers but peace-makers. True peace (shalom) is not the absence of conflict but the restoration of wholeness, reconciliation, and justice. To be peacemakers is to reflect the heart of our Father, showing the world that we are His children.

Icebreaker Question:
Share about a time when you helped resolve a conflict (big or small). How did it feel afterwards?

Group Activity:
Split into pairs or small groups. Give each group a short conflict scenario (e.g., two friends miscommunicating, workplace tension, family disagreement). Ask them to roleplay how a “peacemaker” might enter the situation — not just smoothing things over, but moving toward real reconciliation.

What attitudes, words, or actions made peace possible? What made it difficult?

Read Together:
Matthew 5:9, Romans 12:17-21, Colossians 3:12-15

Discussion Questions:

  • Jesus didn’t say “blessed are the peace-lovers” but “peacemakers.” Why is that distinction important?

  • How does being a peacemaker reflect the character of God as our Father?

  • Where in your life (relationships, workplace, church, society) do you sense God calling you to actively bring peace?

  • What gets in the way of us making peace? Fear? Pride? Comfort?

  • How does the gospel empower us to be peacemakers?

Prayer & Response:

  • Invite the group to pray for situations of conflict they know personally (family, friendships, church, community).

  • Pray for courage to be agents of peace, not just observers.

  • Declare God’s shalom over broken places in the world (war zones, injustices, divisions).

For Personal Devotion:

This Week’s Shared Practice: Peacemaking in Daily Life

Daily Devotion Rhythm:

Day 1: Read Matthew 5:9 – Reflect: What does being called a “child of
          God” mean in this verse?

Day 2: Read Romans 12:18 – “If it is possible, as far as it depends on
you, live at peace with everyone.” Where is this hard for you?

Day 3: Read Ephesians 2:14–18 – Jesus is our peace. How does His
reconciliation at the cross model true peacemaking?

Day 4: Read James 3:17–18 – “Peacemakers who sow in peace reap a
harvest of righteousness.” What seeds can you sow?

Day 5: Identify one small conflict or tension in your life. Ask God how you
might take a step toward peace.

Day 6: Pray for a global situation of unrest. Ask God to raise up His
          people as peacemakers.

Day 7: Sabbath reflection – Journal: “Where have I seen God’s peace at
          work this week?”

Reflection:

  • Do I naturally avoid conflict, or do I step into it with God’s wisdom?

  • Where have I seen God use me as a peacemaker before?

  • What is one relationship where I need to take the first step toward reconciliation?

Practical Tips:

  • Practice listening before speaking in conversations.

  • When tensions rise, pause and pray, “Lord, let me carry Your peace.”

  • Fast from negative talk or gossip for one week.
