The Life Of A Disciple
Living Out The Beatitudes
Practising Hospitality
Hospitality is making room in your life for someone else so God can make room in their hearts. Small acts of welcome can open the way for salvation, healing, and gospel conversations.
Three Levels of Practical Challenges (choose one to do this week)
Level 1 — One Small Welcome
Pick one small act of hospitality this week:
Send a kind text to check in on someone.
Offer to buy someone a drink.
Invite a colleague to sit with you at lunch.
Share something you cooked or baked.
Stay back after service to talk to a newcomer.
Offer a ride home to someone.
Prayer: “Lord, show me one person I can show hospitality to this week.”
Level 2 — Open Your Space
Practise one act that uses your personal space or time:
Invite someone for a simple coffee in your home.
Host a young believer or new member for a meal.
Gather a few friends for board games in your living room.
Invite a neighbour to sit in your home for tea.
Have a post-service lunch with someone you don’t usually talk to.
Key principle: Keep it simple. Don’t aim for performance but for presence.
Level 3 — Open Your Life
Take a larger step that requires courage or intentionality:
Have a meal with someone outside your social circle.
Invite an unchurched friend or neighbour into a moment of your life.
Start a weekly open-home rhythm (one evening every two weeks).
Offer practical help (e.g., babysitting, helping with groceries, tutoring).
Bless someone financially in a discreet, prayerful way.
Actively reconcile with someone hurt or distant through a meal.
Prayer: “Lord, stretch my love. Make my home a place of encounter. Make my life a doorway for Your love. Give me eyes to see people, courage to initiate, and grace to open my space. Use my table, my time, and my words to lead someone closer to You. In Jesus’ name, amen.”
Family Practice (for households) —
Choose one neighbour to bless this week
Have a “no phones at dinner” night and invite a friend
Kids: draw or bake something for someone in church
Pray as a family for God to bring someone into your home
Do a simple family meal + invite one guest
Hospitality becomes normal when kids grow up watching it.
