The Life Of A Disciple

Living Out The Beatitudes

Blessed Are The Pure In Heart

For LifeGroup Discussion

Main Theme:
God blesses those whose hearts are pure—undivided in devotion and integrity — because they will experience His presence and see Him more clearly. Purity of heart is about inward reality, not just outward appearance.

Icebreaker Question:
When you hear the word pure, what comes to mind—an image, a place, or an experience?

Group Activity:
Think of scenarios where integrity or sincerity is challenged:
1. A co-worker takes credit for your work
2. Gossip is spreading in your circle
3. You are tempted to exaggerate or lie to gain advantage

In pairs or threes, roleplay responding in a way that reflects a pure heart.

Debrief: How did it feel to respond from integrity? What Scripture helps guide your heart in such situations?

Read Together:
Matthew 5:8, Psalm 24:3-4, Matthew 23:25-26

Discussion Questions:

  • What is the difference between outward religiosity and inward purity of heart?

  • Why do you think Jesus ties seeing God to being pure in heart?

  • What are some ways our culture encourages divided or impure hearts?

  • How can we guard our hearts in daily life so that our devotion to God stays undivided?

  • Share an example of a time you experienced God more clearly when your heart was aligned with Him.

Prayer & Response:

  • Invite each person to silently confess any “heart clutter” before God.

  • Pray as a group: “Lord, give us clean hands and pure hearts. Remove what distracts us and fill us with undivided love for You.”

  • Close with thanksgiving, asking God to help the group see Him more clearly in the week ahead.

For Personal Devotion

This Week’s Shared Practice: Heart Check

Daily Devotion Rhythm:

Day 1: Read Psalm 139:23–24 – Ask God to search your heart. Journal one area where you need God’s cleansing.

Day 2: Read Matthew 6:19–21. In your work or family life, choose one moment to give someone your full, undistracted presence as an act of purity and love.

Day 3: Read 1 John 1:7–9. Reflect on where you may be hiding or excusing sin. Confess openly to God, and if led, share with a trusted friend.

Day 4: Read Colossians 3:1–3. Write down one “earthly distraction” you can lay aside this week and one “heavenly pursuit” to take up.

Day 5: Read Proverbs 4:23. Fast from one form of media or entertainment for a day and use that time to pray or read Scripture.

Day 6: Read Psalm 51:10–12. Pray this slowly, asking God to create in you a clean heart and renew your spirit.

Day 7: Read Matthew 5:8 again. Reflect: How have I seen God’s presence more clearly this week as I pursued a pure heart? Give thanks in prayer.

Reflection:

  • What competes for my heart’s devotion?

  • How have I experienced God more clearly when I’ve chosen purity of heart?

  • What is one practical step I can take to keep my heart undivided for Him?

Practical Tips:

  • Begin each day with a heart check: Pray Psalm 139:23–24 (“Search me, O God…”) before diving into your schedule.

  • Confess quickly: Don’t let small compromises linger; bring them before God in prayer immediately.

  • Guard your inputs: Choose one area (music, media, conversations) to filter this week so your heart stays clear before God.
