Week 2
The Hustle That Doesn’t Heal
Theme:
This week confronts the lie that more effort, more success, or more pleasure will finally make us whole. Solomon’s great experiment shows us that achievement without meaning leaves the soul hollow. The world teaches us to outrun emptiness with productivity, but Ecclesiastes exposes that we cannot hustle our way into purpose. God invites us to stop using success as a saviour and to rediscover Him as the source of our identity and worth.
Opening Questions:
What stood out from Sunday?
What’s something you worked really hard for, only to feel strangely empty after you got it?
Scripture Reading: Ecclesiastes 1:12 - 2:26
Read aloud slowly. Pause. Re-read.
Reflection Question:
What was Solomon actually searching for in Ecclesiastes 2:1–11? What are you searching for beneath your goals?
Group Discussion:
How does the modern hustle culture mirror Solomon’s search?
Why do you think success and busyness are so powerful in our culture?
How do we know when good things (work, family, goals) become false saviours?
What would change if you believed your worth was not tied to your output?
Activation:
False Saviour Inventory — Circle one area: pleasure / success / approval / control
Ask: What deeper need am I actually trying to fill with this?
Prayer:
God of truth, we confess that we often place our hope in what we can achieve, build, or possess. Forgive us for believing that success can save us. Free us from striving that hides our emptiness. Teach us to rest in You, not in what we do. May our lives be rooted in Your love, not in our performance. Amen.
